Default Need part number of fuel pump to replace VRO for Evinrude 140 V4 1990

My VRO has a crack near the pulse inlet. No fuel or oil can be pumped to the carb when idle. I decide to replace VRO with a regular fuel pump and use pre-mix gas. I saw a fuel pump ( part # 438557 ) at the local dealer. The mechanic said it can be used on my motor but I recognized that the fuel outlet and the pulse inlet are smaller than what used on VRO. I'm afraid that this pump may not supply enough fuel at WOT. Any idea ?Another thing I'd like to know is the part # 438402 pre-mix conversion kit is a whole set of pump or just an add on that have to be used with old VRO ? Local dealer doesn't have this part. If I have to use it, I have to wait 2-4 weeks.

Pannit,I have no idea about your motor but I admire you trying to get your boat running in Thailand. I lived there for 3 years (in Songkhla). Must be hard to find parts there!!!!BTW, I read about your drop in RPM problem. With all of your carb problems, I would say it is in that area still. Have you rebuilt the carbs yet?Ken

Hi Ken,Thank you for stopping by.I have my carb rebuilt already...not help. Then I changed the fuel pump and use premix gas ( pump part number is 438552. It has a pentagonal shape with 3 hoses. The manual says this pump is use for model 9.9 hp and up. I'm not sure that it has enough flow for my 140hp or not ). The problem was much improved ( good idle ). Only occasionally during WOT that it lost rpm and improved by pumping the primer bulb. Today I changed the fuel filter ( the old one just 3 months old). The problem is gone now. I think the pump that I've changed is working near it's upper limitation. No reserve pumping action to draw fuel through a semi dirty filter. I also observe that the fuel outlet is much smaller than the VRO pump. I wonder if I screw this outlet out and make the lumen bigger, the outflow rate may be improved. I may try doing this and I'll also try to find the right pump for my motor ( Non VRO ).Glad to here that you used to live here in Thailand. Here, Yamaha outboard market is stronger...a lot of spare parts. I think Evinrude is good so I'll try to keep my motor running. I start to stock parts and try to fix some problems by myself. I'm a doctor, not a mechanics but very much like to do this job.Happy boating !
