I recently purchased a boat (my first) that has a Johnson 85 HP, V4 Seahorse, built in 1976. It is running fine and has had a lot of work done on it about three years ago. The motor had not been run until this weekend.

Started and ran well, but there was a little bit of fuel oozing from around the fuel filter. The gasket looks new, but I can't seem to tighten it properly to prevent leaking. It is not a major leak, but any leak is a concern to me.

Any Ideas?

Being that old, I would suggest replacing the fuel pump cover (p/n 433518), screen (312675) and gasket (338879). Should set you back $12 - $14 bucks. From a safety stand point it's money well spent.

-John
