I have a 1980 Johnson 70hp. Recently changed spark plugs and set gap at 30thou. (Found this setting here in old post). However I now have trouble cold starting. It takes four or five cranks to start. Once warm starts first time. Before plug change it started first or second time. Can anybody confirm that 30 thou. is correct setting. Also found that motor does not smoke anywhere near what it used to on cold start ? using same fuel mix 50:1 Thanks for any help given.

Re: Johnson Plug Gap ?

.030 is correct. However you could try .028 and see if it helps your problem.
