I am installing a plastic fuel tank in my boat. It is a permanent tank. Are there any special safety issues I should address? There was a wire from the tank to the fill hose. Should this be like this or grounded to the battery?

Re: Plastic Fuel Tank

Well I recon that if it does not go to the fuel gauge, then it should be grounded to eliminate static which could cause a big boom. But Im not sure.

Re: Plastic Fuel Tank

Hi dstuard.<br />All inboard (permanent) tanks must be vented. They must also be equipped with an anti-siphon valve on the fuel pickup for the engine. This is to prevent the fuel from siphoning out into the boat. The wire I believe is an anti-static line. This is to prevent any static charge from building up while fueling. I believe all you need to do is connect it to the filler cap. Also make the fuel gage pickup accessable if you are going to install one. These things eventually go bad.
