johnson lower unit year????

I have a lower unit off of a v4 johnson and I want to know how to tell what year it is or more importantly what years it will fit? it is a mechanical shift so rule out the hydrolic and electro units. please help!!! please e-mail me with any tips or websites that can help me thanks Ed <br /> eaglerider1967@hotmail.com :confused:

Can you find a casting number or part number on the gearcase housing somewhere?? It'll be a 6-digit number...<br /><br />-John

I have looked inside and out and have not found any numbers. Any other thoughts? Ed
