During a fishing derby my husband put the shifter into reverse and it wouldn't change intoother gears after that. Apparently it went into forward when he first went out but laterwouldn't come out of reverse. Amateur mechanics at best, could anyone give us tips on whatcould be wrong? Thanks in advance.
Could be anything from wrong gear oil or a leaky gearcase, to a bad switch ,to a broken wire or bad connection, to a bad ground,to the shift solenoids finally giving out on this old girl.Check the condition of your gear oil first. If there are signs of water thats a good place to start. If not refill it with the appropriate electric shift gear oil and see what happens.
