engine will not stop

I have a 20 hp remote start Johnson. It starts fine but will not shut off when you turn the key off or pull on the lanyard cord. When you turn the key of it does shut off the tach and that is it. Will replacing the key switch solve this problem?

I don't think it is a problem with the switch, as you mentioned the lanyard will not kill it either. This indicates a problem in the cable to the motor , or at the motor itself. Look for corossion around the contacts. It will be either green or white corossion and will be very visable when the connector is pulled apart.

It might be the switch. It is more likely that it is an open wire or connection. Need to know the year of your engine to get the correct wiring diagram.<br /><br />Red Sky at night. . . .<br />JB

Should be black/yellow on pack, jumper this wire to ground, if engine does not stop pack is bad,engine stops follow wire to swith. The 2 M termials must be closed to stop engine, large termial on switch marked M is engine ground.
