First is a question, I am boat stupid but trying to learn, Why when I put the boat in reverse the motor jumping out of the water, idle is down but jumps hard, Is there a lock down for this motor I don't know about?? (1969 Evinrude 55 HP).. Next is the problem, boat starts idle good but when you place it in gear it runs a few seconds and dies out, I drained my fuel tank and alot of water was present, I refilled with good fuel (91 octane)and not alot of difference in the way it runs. I did get it to run for a good while tonight and ran fairly descent but after a while it started missing, misses real bad in turns.

Yes, Wmsclan. There is a lock that should lock the engine to prevent it tilting up in reverse. It is a latch operated by the shift linkage between the vertical tube and the mount.

When you drained and flushed your tank, did you also clean your filter, fuel pump and carbs?? It's acting like it still has water in the system.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB
