I just purchased motor, Johnson 3HP (twin cylinder) Sea Horse Model# JW-11 Serial# 1318577. Need to know year?<br />fuel/oil mixture? Where to get new recoil spring & spare prop?<br />Thanks for any info

Howdy, JDenton. Your engine is a 1955, and what a wonderful li'l singer they are! Some of my favorite memories include a Sea Horse 3 easing a SportYak 7 footer around beds of bull bluegills while I dropped little poppers on their heads.<br /><br />If your local OMC dealer can't help you with parts, try Twin Cities Outboard (I think that's the name) in Minneapolis. If they don't have it, it never existed.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . . .<br />JB

OOOPS!! Forgot. I used 16:1 (1/2pint/gal)back then, but new TC-W3 oil should allow a leaner mix. How lean? Dunno, but I'll bet someone reads this that does.<br /><br />Red sky. . . <br />JB

Did a little carb cleaning on my '55 3hp Johnson last night. I think it is ready to tank test. One question is this a truly air cooled engine or if not is there any telltale stream to check for proper water circulation.

Hey, JDenton. This is a water cooled engine. If you haven't changed the impeller, do it before you run it. Look for water spray in the exhaust above the prop.<br /><br />Good luck.<br />JB
