I have recently traded for an older Larson boat with a 55hp Evinrude on it. The motor runs well when it is out of the water and hooked to the garden hose but when it is lowered in the water and placed in gear it dogs out and dies. The guy I got it from recently had the lower end resealed and says it was after this that it started acting this way. He also just put a toggle switch on it to select gears, says the forward gear push button selector burned out on him. Also, I am trying to determine what year this motor is exactly, the model # is 55973A. Thanks for any advice you may be able to give.
