Shift Rod Screw

I am trying to remove the lower unit off my 1986 175 Hp Johnson. The manual says to remove the retaining screw. Having a hard time getting a screwdriver on the the screw. Is the head a 3/8 inch? Any tricks on getting this screw loose.

Yep, it'a 3/8" head. se a 1/4" drive swivel on a long extension. Make sure to recheck the shift rod height when reinstalling. <br /><br />Good luck!

Thanks to Dhadley!!! The 1/4" drive swivel did the trick and the lower unit came off. I didn't back the screw all the way out, hoping to make reassembly easier. Thanks again.
