I have a 1980 115 Hp Johnson O/B. One of the pistons is burned and the cylinder sleeve is scored. I was told that the carb for that cylinder was set too rich, causing the cylinder to fire too hot, causing the piston to overheat. Is this a possiblilty? If so, when I repair the power head I will need to readjust the carbs. Any assistance is appreciated.

Re: Burned piston

Most likly it was your fuel, they have changed the fuel over the years, and no one may have change to the new style head gaskets and set the timing down, They also have a high ring piston that was alot of problem in this time area. Let me know if i can be of help, we have rebuilt powerhead assy and all the parts you would need, Thanks Frankie
Frankies Marine
918-786-8180
E-Mail fmrs@greencis.net
