Can anybody give me the low down on this motor it has 40 hours on a rebuilt powerhead done at the local Johnson dealer. Is there anything I should know about this motor and what kind of fuel useage I should expect.
Thankyou Mike

I do not own one, but my bro do. It has run flawlessly since he bought it new (1988), with two exceptions...It eats coil packs for breakfast, and the L/U seals should be check 2 times a season. This can be done with a pressure tester to 10psi. It's not a big problem,as you would want to replace the impeller at the normal time.
Good engine tho, concidering all ob's have thier little "quirks".

Hey 12 footer. I have a 89 Johnson 150 V6 GT VRO and you are right it eats power packs/coils for breakfast. I am trying to diagnose what might be causing or at least amplifying this. Stater? Rectfier? My last pack burned up on the second short trip after I replaced it. It stops firing on the three port cylinders.

CMAN

Mike, rule of thumb on fuel consumption @ WOT for 2C engines = 10% of motor HP (GPH). In your case, about 15 GPH. Useage may be significantly reduced by lowering power setting (i. e. cruise at ~ 4000 RPM, instead of WOT)

I've got a 155 commericial that is no saint at cruising altitude. (Speed wise).
Working on pulling back on the throttle.
I would say about 10-12++ gallons an hour at 35ish mph.
It's pushing a fairly light 2500 lb four winns 205 sundowner.
