The aluminum hull of my 1997 17' Starcraft fishing boat is developing corrosion pinholes which are originating from the inside, resulting in water getting into the hull. The boat has never been in salt water, I'm the original owner, and it's only in water 2 weeks/yr in a fresh water lake. The holes are only along both edges of the hull just after the the aluminum is folded to become the bottom of the boat. This results in break-outs of the paint that are about 1/2" in from the outer edges of the sides. Has anyone seen this and what causes it?

Hi tedss, from what you are saying it sounds like electolosus, if you have batteries in there, than it is a good chance.

Since this is a general primer, it may not be helpful in solving your problem, but it does go a long way in explaining what the two gentlemen above are talking about. Fly Rod posted this link several months ago:

http://www.marinesurvey.com/yacht/corrosion_1.htm
