Does anyone know how much a 1970 40 hp Johnson weighed? We are trying to put a new motor on our 1970 13ft Boston Whaler and need to know the weight of the orginal motor.
Thanks.
Advamach@cs.com

Your 1970 is basically similar to my 1960. Weight for them is 141 for electric start, 129 for pull start.

Howdy R.E.K. The loop charged Johnson 40s weigh 180 to 190lb. The old cross flow version probably weighed about the same.

Why do you need to know the exact weight??

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

JB the only reason we are looking for the weight I was looking at putting a 25hp 4 stroke yamaha thats about 200lbs on 13ft boston whaler, & am concerned that this motor is to heavy for the boat.
thanks REK

Good thinking, R.E.K.! My literature says that engine weighs around 140lb. It should be an excellent match for the classic 13 Whaler. It is the "High Thrust" version that weighs 198.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

:) JB I was going to put the high thrust on the whaler but decided on the standard 25 hp 4 stroke w/power tilt & trim after adding the weight of riser plate since its a 20" shaft I figure it!d be about 176lbs
I took the boat in today to have it done.
thanks for your help REK
