tylerr,
some of the experienced guys here have suggested taking off the cowling or hood with engine running at night and look for stray spark around the engine. even with new plugs this could happen if not all the energy is going to the tip of the plug. seems like it's not fuel related. good luck.

Re: 140 johnson major bogging under load HELP!

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM JUST ABOUT A YEAR AGO. I HAD THE MOTOR ON A SPRINT 16 FT BASS BOAT. EVERYTIME I TOOK OFF IF FELL FLAT ON ITS FACE. BUT IT ONLY DID IT AFTER IT WARMED UP SO I THOUGHT. WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS THE 2 EXHAUST HOLES EVNTING ABOVE THE WATER LINE UPON ACELLORATING THE 2 VENTS WOULD SUMERGE BELOW THE WATER LINE AND IT WOULD FALL FLAT ON IT'S FACE. WHATG I DID WAS DRILL 2 NEW HOLES JUST BELOW THE MOTOR COWLING. ABOUT 2" ABOVE THE ORGINAL HOLES AND IT WORKED FINE. FOR SOME REASON THE LOOPERS ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO THIS. JUST LOOK TO SEE IF THEY GO UNDER WATER WHEN YOU GAS IT. IF THEY DO I WOULD BET MONEY THIS WOULD SOLVE YOUR PROB. THANKS AND GOOD LUCK !!!

rjarreau Look at how easy it is to read everybodys answers and then look at your answer. It hurts the eyes to read all Caps. Please use lower case.
steve

First off...the idle is too low..run you engine @800 in gear. Next..has the engine been rebuilt?

If so..you may have to oversize the low speed fuel jets.

An easy way to tell if its lean at idle even though it does not pop. In gear crack the throttle and then pull back to neutral. If the engine stumbles and dies..its lean.

TMD
