6hp Evinrude, 1978. Have to keep squeezing fuel bulb to get it to keep running. Tried 3 different known good fuel tanks. Replaced all hoses and clamps on engine. Fuel pump rebuilt, flows 9 0z of fuel in about 2 minutes, steady stream. Compression very even, 75-80 psi each cylinder.

I'm out of ideas.

Help.

Thanks much.

If the pump is pumping more than a half-pint in a couple minutes, it's doing fine. More than likely the problem is inside the carb. Float level might be off, or the float itself might be sticking...
- Scott

Had a similar problem, engine would run ok if I pumped the bulb or pulled the choke out about 1/2 inch. There is a short piece of plastic hose that connects two brass tubes in the float bowl. I think it supplies fuel to the HS jet. It was not doing whatever it's supposed to do because it was half dissolved. Replaced it and all is well
