40 hp oil injected 1990 Johnson OB. Soon as switch is turned on constant alarm sounds. Boat runs at 2500 rpm, normal 4000 rpm. Manual says that constant alarm is overheat. I unplug wire from float on oil reservoir and alarm silences. Unplug wire from heat sensor on motor and alarm continues. Alarm must not be from overheat sensor on motor because motor has not been started.

Re: constant alarm soon as switch is turned on

Hey yak...welcome to the forum...

The alarm from the reservoir is supposed to be a 1/2 sec tone every 20sec's. or so. If disconnecting the reservoir from the circuit silences the alarm horn, I'd look for a short or frayed wire from the reservoir. Someplace where it comes through a hole or someplace like that. Keep us posted. Thanks and good luck!

Re: constant alarm soon as switch is turned on

Hi Yaks,

If misery likes company... feel good. My '93 Johnson just did the same thing last night. No change in performance and I had no choice but to run the motor to get back to dock. If you solve your problem I would appreciate a shout back, and I will do the same. If there are any other suggestions... they too are welcome.

Thanks.
