Default 1982 evinrude 88hp engine heating up need help please

I just bought two used 1882 evinrude 88hp engine's They run good but one heats up after a while.Water comes out of the small hole real strong please someone help me to solve the problem i know it heats up becouse the gear box has a high pich noise after running the engine for a while.Thank youBadBoy

well what i would do is replace the thermostats won't cost a lot and this could solve your problem ...good luck!

Thanks i will try that someone also told me that there are rubbur plug's that over a long time need to be replace they are located behind the head's they guy said they slow the water down or some thing anyone know what he is talking about.ThanksBadBoy

I believe the "plugs" the person was refering to are the water deflectors which are inside the water passages in the heads. Personally, I have not seen many times where these are the culprits but if the new thermostats do not do the trick and you are getting good water flow the next logical step would be to pull off the heads for inspection.

We did pull the head off for insption and saw that it only had one defelter and it was real bad so we are going to try this if it was bad would it cause the engine to over heatThanksJohnny

Hello i changed the rubbuer plugs and need to know the torque for the head bolts and if they have to tightend in a sorten order.ThanksBadBoy
