tach wire in remote control

I am preparing to wire a new tach for my '82 Evinrude 50hp (E50BELCN). I have the OEM manuals and I can identify the gray tach lead in the harness wiring schematics. The question I have is this: in the schematic, it appears that the gray tach lead (which originates from the stator) is also tied to the accessory terminal on the ignition switch. Does this sound right? This accessory terminal is connected to the rectified +12V supply when the key is in the "start" or "on" position. I'm not an electrical novice by any means, but this seems odd to me. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Re: tach wire in remote control

The gray wire should go directly to the "S" terminal on the tach..."S" = Signal.

The "I" terminal on the tach gets 12V DC from handy source or from the ignition switch.

The "G" terminal is ground.

Does your control box have a tach lead plug on it? It will be below the ignition switch near the bottom of the control box.
