Default Hesitating/Stalling on '86 140 Evinrude

My '86 Evinrude 140 kept hesitating/stalling as it was accelerated. Occationally you could get it to WOT and it would run fine once there.I took all four carb barrels off, cleaned, replaced gaskets, replaced needle valves, adjusted floats, replaced one jet that was different than the manual suggests. Afterward it accelerated fine right up to WOT, but it only lasted about 10 minutes. Thereafter, each time I accelerated the hesitation/stalling problem got worse until I was back where I started.Any thoughts??Thanks.

One more thing I forgot. When I had the carbs off, I noticed the tube that runs from the float chamber to the barrel seemed to be deteriorating (melting?) slightly. Anybody ever heard of this before?

Yes that tube will do that once in a while. The tube is replaceable but the part number is not in the parts books. A dealer MIGHT get someone at Bombardier to get you 4 of them. You have to have all the numbers off the carb itself rather than just the engine numbers. There are several tubes so make sure you have all the available numbers to go by. If you change the carbs, remember that the plastic bodies and the throttle bodies are sets so make sure you get XACTLY the same thing. If you change the set, you will be OK. Those carb assemblys are not that hard to find.Good luck!
