Check compression, should all be within 10 or 15 from each other. How much not as important, as long as they are close to each other. Check outdrive oil for chunks and color. Shavings ok if you cant feel them, no creamy oil or grayish color.I would also look around motor for things unplugged. Wanna make sure warning bell is hooked up! Keep VRO, i like them. With these simple steps taken, and if it sounds and runs solid, it should be ok! Happy Thanksgiving!

when you say unplugged are you saying that you have seen or heard of someone unplugging warning horns hiding a problem ? shouldn,t the horn beep when ignition is turned on to indicate all warnings are working and hooked up or does it only sense the ones hooked up? thanks

When the horn beeps for self test on Johnson/Evinrude the only thing it is telling you is the horn is working, does not check sensors or wires to sensors. XP is Evinrude, GT is Johnson, same motor except paint.
