I have a 40HP 4 cyl ELPTO Mariner. I want to move the battery in the boat for better weight distribution but will need to increase the cable lengths. The total length of the cable will be between 9 and 10 ft. Is a 4ga wire sufficient or do I have to go to the 2ga which is REAL big. These cables are dedicated to the starter. Thanks.

I would go with at least #2, Rod. There is a lot of current needed by your starter and it needs big cable if it is not going to make them very hot.

Thanks for the info. Great feedback as always. Looks like I'll be using the 2ga afterall.
