Default Mercury Control Wiring

I have an '89 40hp ELPTO Mercury. Is there anywhere on the net, that describes the control wiring (schematic or equivalent?). The boat has the standard remote quicksilver controls. At the motor-end of the wiring connector, there are four wires that appear as loose connections separate from the multi-pin connector. Two of them are in use, but the two others are not connected to anything on the motor. What could those two 'extra' wires be for?My boat does not yet have a tach. Do I need to run new wires from the engine for that, or are there wires in the quicksilver controls? Perhaps if I can see a typical wiring diagram that would help.I do not have a service manual yet, and no owner's user manual for this setup. I will be ordering a service manual, but fear that it will not discuss the controls/wiring in detail.Any help is appreciated.

Default Re: Mercury Control Wiring

Moving to Mercury and Mariner Troubles and Repair. I believe you will get a better response there.
