Hardware items:
1. 1 ft - 5/16in Vinyl tubing.
2. 2 ea. - 10-24 screws about 3 in long.
3. 1 ea - 1/4-20 screw
3. Ring terminals for wire
See the image for the setup.

Jam the 1/4 screw into the spark plug boot.
Adjust the gap between the screws in the vinyl tubing to the distance you want.
Ground the other wire (alligator click).
Pull the starter rope and observe the spark.

Works great.

Note: may have to modify the screw and/or vinyl tubing dimensions to match your specific needs or material availability.

That is Cool! I might add - grind ends of screws to a point.

I agree with bonzoscott. Grind it to a point. I've got one of those expensive CDI 8 cyl at a time testers. I don't see how this won't work just as good as it does. Fantastic!!!! I wish I'd come up with this! It would have saved me 100 bucks. My only recommendation is to make that 1/4-20 bolt only as long as necessary.

I'm lazy. I bought an adjustable one at a parts house for $6.50.
