Finally got the old 3hp running after several problems but ran into another problem today, wanted to run it one more time in the barrel before taking it to the river but after a very short run the power head was getting VERY VERY hot. the "pee" hole or fins were spitting a strong spray of water. Is there a way I can force air through the power head to try and clean the passages out without taking it off?

How deep were you submerged in the barrel?

It's normal for that 3hp to seem to run hot. As long as it's spitting water it should be okay.

Especially on the exhaust side as they are not water cooled. They can up to the 200 degree range.

Even the heads get hot, about 175 degrees. You need to test the temp on the starboard side, where the welch plug is located. There is should be below 160 degrees.
