Plane crash in Middletown Springs
Staff Report | September 21,2013

State Police have confirmed that a plane crashed this morning in Middletown Springs, and fire and police are on the scene.
The Middletown Springs Public Library book sale was this morning, and library trustee Lois Dansereau heard the plane coming down.
"I can tell you we were here, we heard this plane, it was very very low, just over the treetops," she said. "Then it made a funny sound, and we heard it crash."
"It crashed in the field. The people are okay, their faces are a bit banged up, we understand," she continued. "People from here ran over... one man was a retired EMT."
The plane went nose into the field, she said, but it seemed that the pilot knew what he was doing, because it didn't go into the trees.
"We're just glad they're okay. What we heard is they ran out of gas. They were going for Glens Falls airport, but there's a balloon festival over there, and the airport's closed," she said. "They were going for Rutland and they ran out of gas."
The book sale is going well, too, she said.

That's funny, Bob. Well the part about the book sale is. Guess the responders were too busy for the reporter to get first hand information, so the first available person with any authority was the library trustee.

Good to hear the crash victims aren't too banged up. According to the trustee, anyway.

Maybe the crowd that gathered at the crash site stopped by the book sale afterwards?

Well, yeah. Gotta figure the plane crash and the book sale were the two biggest thing going on in Middleton Springs today.

I'm guessing "How to Fly" might have been a popular title. ;)

Wonder if Middleton Springs thought the city was under drone attack? How will they top this years event?

pilot should have been able to glide it down unless the field was muddy (cant tell from the photo).

No excuse for this at all. Every good pilot should know how many pounds of fuel is on board at all times and plan accordingly. Sad looking little Cess. :(

Re: Oh man....only in VT !!!

Looks like they left from a grass strip headed in bound (presumably to fuel). They had to divert due to a balloon festival at the Glen's Falls Airport soakin' up the runway(s). I can't find if Glen's Falls issued a NOTAM, in which case Volphin would be correct. If they didn't, then this dude woulda' had a hard time knowing not to head there.

Doesn't explain the failed soft-field though.

He had enough on board to get back on the ground....just not very well. :)
