I have a bayliner 195 that has some damage along the keel, the transom to keel interface, the bow, and lip that the rub rail is fastened to. Here are some pictures of the bow and rub rail attachment. I have zero experience with fiberglass repairs. I have spent some time reviewing the various fiberglass restoration threads but I would like to back that information up with some advice from people that have some boat repair experience.

Can anyone tell me if the damaged sites should be repaired with just CSM or if I need other material to reinforce the area? I still need to sand down through the paint where all of the stress cracks are and see what lies beneath. More pictures to follow.

Re: Looking for advice on fiberglass repair

Welcome to iBoats!

These pics, All appear to be of the Rub Rail only. I'd grind these down, and put on a couple of layers of CSM and then use a PreVal spray to apply 3-4 coats of GelCoat. It's not paint.

Re: Looking for advice on fiberglass repair

Ok thanks for taking a look.
I have removed the rivets up front, lined the bow back up, and put a couple of new rivets in place to hold everything in alignment for now. I plan to start prepping the rub rail today.

Here are some pictures of the other damage. Picture the boat sliding off a flatbed tow truck and the asphalt grinding down the keel. Chips and damage to the transom and hull as the boat was winched back on the flatbed minus the trailer.

Re: Looking for advice on fiberglass repair

It appears all of that is GelCoat damage. If you poke the glass substrate is is really solid? It looks like it is. If so, then you could just get rid of all the loose stuff, grind and feather it all out, mix up some gelcoat paste by mixing some glass bubbles in with your gelcoat to thicken it, wash the area really well with acetone and then using a bondo spreader spread the paste into the damaged areas and smooth as best you can and then come back and sand and fair. Matching the gelcoat color will be your biggest problem. It's not easy to do but if you call the dealer he can help you with that.
