the donor boat mercruiser 898 (chevy 305) swap with my 1984 3.7 does this make any sence, the donor boat can be bought super reasonable. I was going to go with 4.3 but I found this donor boat and just wanted to explore the idea.
thankyou everyone for your ideas

As long as you get the drive and transom plates, then swap EVERYTHING over. The 898 will not bolt up to the 1984 inner transom plate.

Anything can be made to fit with enough time and money, swap everyything as Achris says. You might also have to modify the engine mounting in the front.

You might want to consider the size of the boat you are swapping into, the V8 will be about 400 pounds heavier than the 3.7.

Believe it or not, the 4.3 is a better engine...

Yep the 4.3l is much better than a 305. They make about the same power. The only way I would switch it out to a V8 is for a 5.7.

the current outdrive would be correct for the 4.3, not so much for the 305.

Yep, 2 bbl 305 used a 1.65:1, 4 bbl used 1.50:1.... 470 and earlier 4.3 used 1.84:1
