Hello fellow boaters.
I just traded for a 1965 Thunderbird boat motor trailer package.
I got it for trading a 1995 snapper mower. This is my first boat in many years.
The motor runs great.
I was told it was all original but not to sure of that.
I looked into the motor and it is a 1965 Johnson 75 hp super sea horse by the model
number but the parts list on marine engine.com show the lower unit being 1964 heavy duty gearcase
as such with the distributor.
Im a newbie when it comes to old boats.
Im looking for opinions and value good and bad.
Im thinking of selling it and not sure what to ask for it.(edited to add this)
Here are some pics
Thanks,Sam

I'd certainly prefer that boat over a mower any day of the week. It's gotta be a lot more fun too.

From those photos it looks nice. From the photos it looks like the wiring could be cleaned up some (but that's the case with more than half the boats out there), but that's really kind of nit-picking.

It certainly won't cut the grass, but it looks OK to me.

Re: My new old boat

if the motor runs looks like you got a good deal. There are a lot of things about that motor that have changed (such as your prop has shear pins) but the old Johnsons were work horses especially if it's a fresh water boat. Check the compression and the transom and have fun!

you mention value--it has little if you were looking for a resale.

Re: My new old boat

The gentleman told me it was a freshwater boat.
As far as I can tell it was. The trailer looks original and has no rust.
Im debating on selling for a newer smaller boat or keeping her.
She kinda grows on you.

Good looking boat! Nice trade.

I got a boat for my wife...I will probably miss her, but I sure will have fun fishing.

As for the trade, I'd rather be standing in front of an outboard than walking behind a lawn mower!
