Which motor would push a 12 ft Jon boat faster or would there really be not much difference. A 1962 Evinrude 3hp or a 2014 Honda 2.3hp motor. Thanks

A six horse will push it quite well. I'd stay with the old Evinrude if you already have it and it starts well.

With only having a 12 footer, and I assume it is alum.....which ever is the lightest weight. Probably not much difference but the 3 does have a bit more HP providing it is tuned and running properly.

Honda makes a 2.3hp motor?

*edit* cool, just looked it up.

I would say they likely are the same, as the Evinride 3hp is not producing it's advertised power.

Thanks, thought it would be close. I have a 62 3hp Evinrude pushing it now and have clocked it at about 4.2 mph with a GPS. That's at 6240 elevation with about 400lbs in it. It runs real nice.

My 6 Hp Johnson pushed my 12' Alumacraft along about 10-12 Mph with a load in it.
I don't have the boat and dont use that motor any longer.
