It had been sitting for a couple months we put it in the water and it started right up idling great. We left the ramp and idled out past the no wake bouys and when i started throttling it up it just sputtered down and died like it ran out of gas. I think we left the vent on the gas tank closed. But now it will only idle for a few seconds and then die. It has fuel getting to it. The filter is good, but it is like it can barely get any fuel is what it acts like. When it caused a suction on the fuel system with the vent closed could it have damaged something? Maybe the fuel pump?

Try priming the fuel bulb as the engine is running. If it runs ok, then yes, the fuel pump may be shot. It may also have collapsed lines between the fuel connector and the pump, check those...

Keep posts going. May have to check carb to see if butterfly is opening as you advance throttle...all linkage OK ...nothing come loose ? You can also disconnect fuel line at carb and test for gas getting to that point.
