Hello Iboats,

I am doing a resto on a 1988 Bayliner Cuddy Capri 18ft. Have the transom done and now it is time to measure and cut my stringers. Is there an efficient way to measure them from stern to bow without needing two people? I don't want to make alot of mistakes and waste wood. Tabs are all cut out and ground down. Hull is bare as can be. All ideas welcome. Thanks

Welcome to iBoats!

Did you mark the sides of the hull where the previous deck joint was? If so, you can tape string lines across the hull at these marks to establish the deck height and then measure down from the string to the bottom of the hull to establish the stringer height @ 6" intervals and then transfer these measurements to your stringer blanks. Or you could build a jig...

I didn't mark it but it is visible because of the color changes. I used the string method and then transferred it onto a piece of pink styrofoam insulation. Just to be sure I popped a chalk line. Today I will finish that template and see where it gets me. It should be fairly accurate. I looked at the jig and that thing is awesome but I am not patient enough for that. Anyhow, thanks for the reply. Ill get pics of the project shortly.

Yarney, this thread has not been active for 18 months . . .

So, what you hopped aboard ain't moving. It is best to make note of the post date on threads and not post to anything that is over 90 days old.

hope my project does go that way.. my mistake.

I hope your project goes much better, looks to me like that was hacked every which way but Tuesday, and most likely scrapped....your size boat is on the borderline between requiring a decap rebuild, and a precision rebuild...it all depends on how far its gone......cutting everything that is easily accessible is the wrong way, in most cases.
