2001 Yam 150 HPDI stbrd cntr rotating -
On muffs and neutral my strbrd prop spinning too fast. The port engine does not spin(barely). If I rev a little bit prop spins even more, could take out a finger or a small pet. I noticed while engine is running, and I put in fwrd gear, its smooth, no grind just a little thump. However, going into reverse from neutral is a grinding noise.

Is there a link adjustment on these motors? The prop spins by hand without ticking noise but not as freely as the port engine. Just ordered a Service Manual hoping it would be in there.

Help!

Nothing you can do about it if the clutch dogs aren't engaged.

Like Ken said.
Not much you can do.
It the viscosity/thickness of the oil.
The drive shaft is turning the gears as the motor runs.
It's not engaged just the friction spinning the prop.
Does it make a noise when it's in the water or just on land?

Another twist.... I pulled the lower unit, replaced impeller, plate and everything else that came with the kit, since LU was out anyway. Place LU back on without trouble, spin the prop by hand and now tick tick tick... seems before it was a hair on clutch dog being engaged, because now, it is fully engaged. Do I need to pull the LU off again? The control handle was on neutral prior to me pulling the LU.

Thanks

yes , you need to make sure both control and lower unit are in neutral when putting back together

Any tips on how to put the LU in neutral while detached?

I put the throttle in F
Then the lower unit, from the rear.
Reach with right hand and pull up on the prop blades
The left hand, a pair of pliers, on the shift shaft.
Turn to the left till it stops.
This put the case in F gear.
Then install the drive.
It should go straight up and in.
If the splines don't mesh?
Pull up again with the right hand on the prop blades.
It spins the drive shaft and allows the splines to mesh.
