Hello all,

I'm in the process of bring a 15hp 1980" Johnson motor back to life and have a couple questions for the members.
Background the motor is running now but I have not water tested it yet only on muffs.

I have attached a photo this is not my motor but it looks the same.

Question 1) Red circle marked as "I" what is this hole? Because I have water coming out of it when I tested it! Is it just missing a plug or what?

Question 2) Red circle marked as "II" I have oil coming out of the prop exhaust. I think its just oil that was not burned in the engine from mixed incorrectly gas I think it?s a bit rich.

Thanks to all and thanks for your time.

Welcome to the forum.
1. That is a drain hole for the exhaust housing to drain the water so that it will not freeze up in northern climates. If running on a hose you will see water coming out there.
2. Oil coming out there is normally oil in the fuel mixture that did not get burnt up. You will not see it when running in the water.
Check your lower unit and make sure it is full and there is no water in it.
