I recently had a 2001 Mercury 40 hp serviced. A two cylinder two cycle outboard. It was only running on the bottom cylinder. the shop had trouble diagnosing .. first it was the rev-limiter. They then came up with replacing the stator and trigger. They said they had Mercury support help them and found out that the stator was bad and it was self grounded thus causing the trigger to go out. Installed stator and trigger and ran it with muffs for me. My first launch the next day it ran rough and then would not stay running. I started from scratch on setting idle and fast advance on the water. They charged 4 hours labor at $90.00 per 3 hours were working with tech assistance. Any thoughts on service and pricing.
