Hello.

I am having an intermittent problem where I start the engine to troll and the alarm will come on constant and not stop. If I play with the up/down motor switch on the handle, it seems to affect it. There is oil in the reserve and everything else seems ok. It is a 1992 Mercury 40HP outboard that I bought about a year ago. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions where to look for the problem. If I shut the motor off and try to start again, it works fine with no alarm, and I can troll for an hour without a problem.

any suggestions are very much appreciated.
thanks!

Re: Alarm sounds periodically when starting to troll - intermittent

Is it a constant beeeeeeeep or is it beep-beep-beep-beep?

Beep-beep-beep-beep:Could be a defect oil warning module, or a bad oil level switch in oil tank

If constant beeeeeeeeeep: could be your poppet valve.
Also follow the wire from temp sensor and check that it do not hit ground somewhere.
