How many rpm's can a 350 mag handle while cruising. Best is 3000 rpm at 23mph for my boat. If gas usage is not considered, what would be a save higher rpm to cruise around without causing any problems later on.

4000 is fine. Listen to the engine. You will hear the throttle when it starts to work hard You can probably run at 30 mph or maybe 35 without any long term issue and still get reasonable economy. Too fast and you just start eating fuel which means you are stressing the engine more.

Thanks for info. I like that 3700 to 4000 rpm range for the speed I get. Just wanted to be careful.

Re: save rpm's

I have owned an I/O, little 4 banger with a Chevy block. Only part really Chevy was the block. The innerds are Mercury parts, designed to run 100% throttle all day long. Otherwise they wouldn't bother to put in new innerds. I hear you on being careful, but you really don't have to worry about it. Now trying to run a stock auto/truck engine at 100% throttle all day long.....forget it.
