88 force 85hp model 856X8B Block # M497793. I took the boat to get the lower unit oil replaced check out ok no water in the oil but it was burnt black. I took it out 3 times with in 2 week's an on the last run I noticed green fluid leaking from behind the propeller. I drained the oil an it was milky green I went to open the vent an fill screw an noticed that the fill had a double gasket , could that be why it's milky? But it is leaking out from behind the propeller. What to do? I called the place an the service advisor said that the oil leaking from behind the propeller means that the seals are blown out or in. If I would have to replace the oil seals to the propeller shaft do I have to disassemble the complete leg meaning gear casing, water pump , bearings etc. .. or can I just pull them from behind the zinc place that has 4 1/2 bolts ? I do have the repair Manuel but it's not clear if I need to disassemble everything or not. Any help is gladly appreciated. By the way I used the saltway flush because it was recommended because I'm always on saltwater. Would that had affected the seals? Cause wen you do radiator flushes on older car radiators it collapsed with in it's self because all the corrosion gets washed.

The seal replacement is best done when the carrier is removed.
The leak, you need to get a pressure test to make sure where it's leaking?
Yes the double seal on the fill/vent plug can cause a leak.
Fill out the profile, location? You might be close to someone who can help.
Salt away shouldn't be a problem.
Not always necessary. My opinion is that once you put it in salt water,NOTHING you do is gonna stop the salt.

Thanks for the replie, I filled out the profile I'm located in san diego ca in imperial beach. On the double gasket if water got in it would it leak from behind the propeller? So for the seals I differently have to disassemble the leg, pull the bearings an so forth?

Just the rear carrier for the seal.
Remove the prop, zinc and then the 4 screws and the carrier should come out.
Just be VERY careful when removing the old seal so you don't damage the mating surface.

I went ahead a removed the propeller and the zinc an this is what I see. I believe that I have to us a pulley puller an some long bolts to remove the lower career?

Yup 2 long bolts and a wheel puller or harmonic balancer puller.

So I used 1 full tread 1/4-24 tread bolt from home depot for $2 50 chopped it in 2 an walla. I also used a steering wheel pulley. It was easy and smooth coming out but now this is what I see any inputs from y'all? I see 2 lanrge o-rings I'm thinking 3 inch ring's and 1 center rubber grommet with a coil wrapped around it in the middle of the hub. Any other o-rings or gaskets I can replace once I'm already here.

I've been reading on the manual that the shaft seal in the outer bearing carrier the lip should be facing in on a one seal system and back to back on a two seal system . What system do I have ? How can I find out? An is the seal at the moment in the picture installed incorrectly?the coil spring is visible to the outside

I think you have the 1 seal.
You need to pull the seal or seals to figure out what you have.

Could it be that it's a two piece seal an the previous owner only install 1 ?

This is the carrier seal how's it look to you guy's 1 or 2? My questions is because as you can see there's a gap in between the seal an niddle bearing. Would the oil be coming from further up?
