Depth of trolling motor

I have a 9.9 Johnson, outboard, trolling motor for my 21" Century Cuddy Cab, what is the best, correct, depth for trolling?
Obviously I am new to this, would like to have some professionals answer my question, instead of my local peers.....

Prop below the water. I like about 2-3 inches.

deep enough in the water that it doesn't get lifted out by waves and wakes but not so deep that the engine gets swamped by waves and wakes

better thrust is achieved if the prop is below the hull
