4.3 l water pump rust

Hi, just replaced both exhaust manifolds in 90 4.3 cobra, now am concerned, is it likely the engine driven water pump, on the front of the engine could be as rusted? only in fresh water, but wow! the port side exhaust manifold had a hole rusted through, so, any thaughts on this? Jack

just found info that omc engine water pumps have stainless innerds, so maybee this is not such an issue?

One way to tell is to look under the pulley on the pump. If you see water leaking there with the engine running replace it. Also if the bearing is getting noisy same thing, time for a new one. My OE one lasted 22 years half of that was in salt water.
