No! They are self draining if left in the full down position. Put a plastic bag over the prop and tape up the water pickup holes to prevent mud daubers from taking up residence if they are a problem.
It seems practical to me IF, say I wanted to replace the waterpump impeller anually. I could pull the unit off before storage and do it during the winter.
