Hello gentlemen. I hope your boating season is going well. I just acquired a 120 Force that I'm not sure which year. The gentlemen that I got the motor from said that they stern bracket was replaced by the previous owner with a 150 so the model tag is incorrect. Thanks for your time.

Looks like a 90 or 91.
Pic of the lower unit?
Under the electrical stuff(packs, coils)there is a foundry stamp.

Jerry, thank you sir. I previous posts I've read it was recommended to remove the packs which I did but there isn't a stamp that I'd seen. I will check again and will post a picture of the lower unit.

From looking at the hooddecals it is a 1989.

Attached is a pic of the outdrive and also I removed the packs again and this is the only number that I found which seams to be the part number of the powerhead.

Re: Please help with motor year identification

Nordin, been "googling" for a while still trying to determine what year motor I have and doing basic research but what I'm finding is that the 125 was made from 1984-1989 and the 120 was made from 1990-1995. So essentially since this motor is a 120hp it cannot be a 1989 correct? I have experience with Mercury and Evinrude/Johnson but this is my first Force.

Next spot to look is under the mid section cover. There is a factory stamp there.
Your right about the 125/120 years.
The covers were all about the same.
the paint/decals varied from Bayliner, Maxim and Tracker paint choices.

Interesting the paint scheme varied from boat manufacture to boat manufacture. I will check under the mid section cover.

Re: Please help with motor year identification

Jerry, this is what I found when I removed the mid section cover IMG_20130823_085900_359.jpg I can't cross this number to anything. While looking closely again I found this number 0000094 stamped onto the powerhead, port side aft next to the head but I couldn't cross that number into anything also. I definitely believe that I have either a '90 or 91 motor but not having the model number is going to 'cause me some trouble.

Sorry, I may have remembered wrong. Have had two 50Hp and one was a 1989 and the other a 1990.
One of them had the same decaldesign as yours. Then it is a 1990 because you are right about the 125/120Hp.
The 120Hp was from 1990 and later.

The pic shows the foundry stamp. the middle of the stamp says 89.
The 719 is the part # for the mid section.

Re: Please help with motor year identification

So I have a frankenstein outboard? '90/'91 powerhead with a 1989 midsection? Ahhhh make sense now. The previous owner did say that the owner before him replaced the transom bracket when he actually most likely replaced the entire mid section to inlcude the transom bracket from a 150 outboard. Ok, I'm happy with knowing I either have a 1990 or 1990 outboard. When I need to order parts I just need to pay attention to what I'm ordering to make sure I do order the correct part.

Thank you gentlemen, I really do appreciate your time and assistance.

Re: Please help with motor year identification

99% of the parts are the same.
Pistons on some years are different.
Some newer water pumps and housing are different.
If you need a particular part just ask and we'll make sure you get the right stuff.
Remember pictures are worth their weight in gold.
