I have a 1982 7.5 HP evinrude that runs fine cold, but once it stalls hot, and you try and restart it, it wont start till it cools back down.

Does this sound like a bad coil? or could it be a power pack? What is the difference between these 2 parts?

There actually are four main parts to the ignition system. 1: A charge coil generates electricity, which is stored in 2: The power pack, until 3: The sensor tells it it is time to fire, and to which cylinder, and then 4: The power pack discharges the stored electricity through one of the two coils, which increase the voltage to spark strength.

Does it sound like a bad coil or power pack? Not really. Could be the charge coil though. What you need to do is check the spark when it won't start. Might be an entirely different problem.
