1977 70hp johnson outboard problem

Hi,
I have an issue with my outboard lately. Everytime when i shift to full speed, my outboard will die right away. I have to try couple times before i can get her going to full speed. When i get her to full speed, i have no problem with her.
What is causing that to happen?

Sounds like it's starving for fuel. Probable cause is crud in the high speed jet(s). A thorough cleaning and new carb kits will help.
