The least expensive new lower unit would be from SEI in Tampa--$845 with a 3 year warranty. They're Chinese made, but there are a bunch of them out on the water doing the job.
You can often find used lower units on EBayMotors.com in the boat parts section, however you don't know if the gears and bearings are worn out and if the seals ($300 job) are good. Used units are around $1,100, and they've got to be bought from reputable marine shops.
Or, you can buy a new lower unit--over $2K.
