I am not sure? I have a 70hp Evinrude and a 140hp v-4 Johnson. My boat is a 21' aluminum starcraft center console not very heavy. I think the 140 is to big a motor and the 70 my be slightly under powered but a better choice. Which motor would better suit this boat.

There should be a tag on the boat saying what it is rated for.

Re: Opinion Needed 21' Center Console

it also depends what year the 70hp is and what year the 140hp is
if the 140 is an old crossflow then its only realy about 110 to 115 hp max at the prop.
if the 70hp is a later engine its going to be ok, but 21ft is a big old boat for just 70hp.
the weight difference f the 140 crossflow is only about 60 pounds for extra horses.
but the fuel consumption will be almost double with the 140.

for a 21 foot boat i cant see the 140 being too much power for it unless its a weak type of boat.

personaly i think the 140 would be best choice all round, providing its reliable engine.

what boat is it exactly ?

What year/model is she, chrisjt? A 21' Starcraft CC is a light, strong boat. We can check the brochures in the Starcraft chunk of the forums and find the manufactures rating, which is the only thing that counts.
