I just purchased an older Starcraft with a Mercury 85hp outboard. I believe the motor is a '76 and the SN is 4537364.

This is my first O/B so Im hunting a manual and a water pump kit.

Is an 18-3517 the impeller kit I need?

Is C-90-75512 the correct manual?

Thanks

85 850 4-cyl 4366802 4590511 1976 USA

From here:

Mercury 2-takt, 4-cyl, 40 - 85 hp, produktions?r, modellguide

Parts List:

MERC 850 - Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. Parts Lookup

You will see under Gear Housing that the Merc p/n for the impeller is 89984T4 and you can cross reference that to Sierra, which comes up as 18-3017. The number you have above for the impeller is actually a housing kit number which does contain the right impeller 18-3017.

The manual number you have listed is correct.

Re: New owner of a Thunderbolt 850

Thanks Gerry,
snagged a manual off ebay and got the water pump kit and fuel pump kit as well. Haven't started on the maintenance yet, but with some fresh gas and a battery it fired up and idled. Seems to stall out if put into gear though, not surprising since it's probably sat a couple years. Need to get it into a tank rather than the muffs and see what it does.

Wondering if I should try some Seafoam or something first, rather not dig into the carbs unless I really have to. Any tips? Maybe the fuel pump kit will help ...
