Hey folks first time here, have a 1984 Mercury 115HP inline 6, before I put boat in water everything worked fine, foward, reverse, idle, no problem, compression 120#s across the board, put boat in water under load in foward and ran fine at about 1500 rpms put boat in reverse and stalled out, would not restart for about 20 mins and then same problem and symptoms all over again....does it possibly need fuel pump kit or maybe something more extensive.

any help would be appreciated
Thanks

How fast were you going and what were your approximate rpms when you put it in reverse and it stalled? In reverse you are blocking your through prop exhaust and all you to let it out are your exhaust relief ports on the rear, just under the lower cowling. Not much room for exhaust to escape. You could be flooding your cylinders with burned fuel keeping any fresh fuel from entering and performing. I think their is a name for the process....hydro lock or something like that.

it happens at dead stand still while in slip and just after placing in nuetral at a calm coast.

Why don't you keep it on the trailer and take it to the ramp when not busy and do some Carb and idle adjustments.
