Hi guys,
I just got an old 1968 evinrude 6hp fisherman from a friend. When I tired to open the latch to take off the hood, it snapped off inside the cylinder. I will try to post a pic. Now I cannot open the hood or turn the latch. Any recommendations or has someone gone through this! I appreciate any help as I am kinda stuck!

I took a quick look at mine and I don't think there is enough room to tap the broken piece in so the latch comes off the tab that holds the cover on. It's close, but I think it will hit the block. You will probably have to drill it so you can get an easy out in it. Soak it with PB blaster or other similar product for a couple days to loosen any corrosion and try again to rotate the latch. If the broken piece moves inward when you tap on it you will know that it is freed up.

BTW, when you get that off and replace the broken part, there is a grease fitting to keep that part lubricated.
